Choose what to practice, then type the lit key. Each lap is short, with no clock, and ends with stars for careful typing.
Pick what to practice
| Choice | Keys | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Home row | A S D F G H J K L | A first day at the keyboard. Fingers stay in the middle row. |
| Top row | Home row, plus Q W E R T Y U I O P | Reaching up and coming back home. Real words appear. |
| All letters | All 26 letters | Words from across the whole keyboard. |
| Sentences | Letters, capitals, periods, commas and question marks | Typing the way real writing looks, with Shift. |
| Numbers | The number row, 0 to 9 | Counting words and short number runs. |
These are skills, not grades. Start where typing feels comfortable and move on when a lap feels easy.
Typing exercises and drills
Each lap is one short typing exercise. The Home row and Top row laps start with drills, short runs of the same few keys, and then move to words. All letters and Sentences are touch typing practice on the whole keyboard: the hands show the finger for every key, so there is no need to look down.
How a lap works
- Type the lit key. The keyboard shows it in the color of the finger to use, and the hands move to it.
- Slipped? Try again. The racer waits for the right key.
- Finish the lap. You get up to three stars: three when every key was right.
- Next lap. Press Enter for new words on the same keys.
How long to practice
Short and often works better than long and rare. A few laps is a full session for a beginner. Stop while it is still fun, and come back tomorrow.
Where the words come from
Every lap is built by the same lesson maker as the Bumpy Keys game, from a list of friendly words that only uses keys already practiced. That is why a Home row lap never asks for a key you have not met.
For one skill at a time, there are pages for Paragraph typing practice · Sentence typing practice · Number typing practice · Punctuation typing practice · Sight words typing practice · Capital letters typing practice · Left hand typing practice · Right hand typing practice · Typing for beginners.
When you want a path instead of single laps, the game's 100 lessons start with F and J and add a key or two at a time. To see how far you have come, take the typing test.
Questions
Is the practice free?
Yes. There are no ads and nothing to sign up for.
Is there a timer?
No. Practice laps have no clock. Stars come only from careful typing.
Which choice should a beginner pick?
Home row. It keeps fingers on the middle row, where they rest, and it is where the game starts too.
Does it remember my progress?
No. This page saves nothing. The full game keeps progress on your device, with no account.
