Bumpy Keys for iPad and Mac, and bumpykeys.com · Effective September 22, 2026

Bumpy Keys is made and published by Click Clack Labs ("we"). By downloading or using the Bumpy Keys app for iPad or Mac (from the App Store or the TestFlight beta), the bumpykeys.com website, the browser game at play.bumpykeys.com or our printables, you agree to these terms. They're short on purpose. The Privacy policy explains what we do and don't collect (almost nothing) and is part of these terms.

Grown-ups and kids

Bumpy Keys is designed for children ages 4 to 9 and listed in the App Store Kids Category, but the person who installs it, accepts these terms and makes any purchase must be an adult: a parent, guardian or teacher, who accepts them on the child's behalf and supervises the child's use. Purchases, settings and every link out of the app sit behind a parent gate: a press and hold, plus a four-digit PIN if a grown-up sets one. Keep the PIN to yourself; a forgotten PIN is reset with the device's own lock. We collect no personal information from anyone.

Your license to use the app

  • Bumpy Keys is licensed, not sold, for personal, non-commercial use by a family, or by a teacher with their class, on devices you own or control.
  • The copy you get from the App Store is licensed under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard EULA). These terms add to it; if they ever conflict, the standard EULA wins for that copy. Apple is not responsible for the app or its support and has no warranty obligation beyond refunding the purchase price where its EULA says so; Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary. Any claims about the app, including product-liability claims, claims that it fails a legal requirement, or consumer-protection claims, are ours to handle, not Apple's, and any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property is ours to investigate and resolve. You confirm you are not in a country under a U.S. government embargo or on a U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Don't copy, resell, rent, redistribute, or reverse-engineer the app; don't extract or reuse Bumper's voice clips, the artwork, the music, the lesson content or the code outside the app; don't try to forge or share unlock codes. Showing the app in reviews, videos, lessons or school newsletters is welcome.
  • Our free printables may be printed, copied and shared for home, classroom, library and co-op use. Don't sell them or strip our name off them.

Purchases, Family Sharing and refunds

  • The full curriculum is included at no charge. The browser includes Puppy Park and Dino Dash, and existing players keep their original free world. One optional in-app purchase, "All twenty worlds", unlocks the rest. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, shown with its price in the App Store and in the app behind the parent gate.
  • Locked worlds are shown so a child can see what's there. A guest lap in a locked world, a race against a locked racer or a "hello" from a locked character is a preview, not a purchase: it records no stars or progress, and it doesn't unlock anything. Only the purchase, a code or Family Sharing opens a world for good. Dress-up items and buddies (called pals in some versions) are earned by playing; none is sold.
  • Apple takes the payment, issues the receipt, and runs Family Sharing: one purchase unlocks all worlds on iPad and Mac for the devices signed in to the purchasing Apple Account, and for family members it is shared with, under Apple's rules. Restore Purchases is in Grown-ups.
  • Refunds for App Store purchases are decided and paid by Apple under Apple's refund policy. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue App Store refunds ourselves, but email us if something went wrong and we'll help you sort it out.
  • Buying in the browser. When available, the one-time browser unlock is sold through Stripe Managed Payments (Link), the merchant of record, on Stripe's hosted checkout page. Applicable tax and the final total are shown before payment. The code and unlock link appear in Bumpy Keys after payment and work in the browser game; iPad and Mac App Store purchases are separate. Save the code, or email [email protected] if you lose it. Stripe sends the payment receipt, which does not contain the unlock code. For a web-purchase refund, email us within 14 days; Stripe may also provide refunds under its terms and applicable consumer law. A refunded code is no longer a license to the worlds, even where a device still accepts it.
  • Browser unlock codes. We issue browser-game codes to schools, co-ops, families and testers. A code unlocks the same worlds as the purchase on the device where it's redeemed. School codes cover the number of devices we agreed; we trust you to stay within it. Codes are for the people we gave them to: don't publish, sell or trade them. We may decline to issue codes or stop honoring codes that were shared, sold or obtained dishonestly. Codes have no cash value.

The TestFlight beta

Beta builds are pre-release software offered through Apple's TestFlight under Apple's TestFlight terms. They may have bugs, may change or lose progress, stop working when the build expires, and may differ from the App Store version. Use the beta at your own risk, and install it as an adult; Apple's TestFlight data practices are described in our Privacy policy.

Schools and teachers

Schools, homeschool co-ops, libraries and tutors may use Bumpy Keys with their students under the license above. Free school codes are available on request from the Teachers page. Learning progress stays on the device. Optional online rooms relay nicknames and race progress, and code redemption and purchases process the information described in our Privacy policy. If your district needs a privacy review or a student-data agreement, contact us before classroom rollout. Bumpy Keys is a practice tool, not a curriculum mandate or an assessment: the teacher decides how it fits.

Our content

Bumper the bear, the racers and worlds, the artwork, animations, music, sound effects, voice clips, lesson content, the name Bumpy Keys and the website are owned by Click Clack Labs or used under license (the Fredoka and Rubik fonts are used under the SIL Open Font License). All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

Things you export from the app

The progress card and the racer files (NAME.bumpyracer) that a grown-up creates in the app are yours: keep, print, send or post them as you like, including our artwork on them. They leave the app only through your device's own share sheet, to the apps and people you choose; once shared they are in that app's hands, not ours. A racer file opens only in Bumpy Keys and carries one racer's name and progress, nothing of the device, so sharing it with another family's iPad or Mac gives them that racer, not your purchase. Please don't edit a card to misrepresent a child's progress as our certification, and don't remove the Bumpy Keys name from it if you publish it.

Acceptable use

Use the app and the website as a normal person would: don't attack, scrape, overload or probe them, don't try to bypass the parent gate or the purchase on behalf of a child, and don't use our name or Bumper in a way that suggests we endorse something we don't.

Racing with friends online

Race together rooms are opened by a racer on one device and joined with a four-letter code. When you use them:

  • Racers join with one word: the first word of the racer's name, a first name or nickname, never a full name; a racer who has no name yet or whose saved name cannot be used in a room is asked for a room nickname. Newer versions keep that visit's nickname separately when a saved name is unsuitable, without changing the saved racer name. The app and the relay refuse names with spaces, symbols, blocked words or Bumpy Keys' own words; a grown-up who types or allows a name is responsible for it. Names are visible to everyone in the room, including on a teacher's big screen.
  • Share a room code only with the people you want in the room. Anyone with the code can see the racers' names, characters, outfits, typing-readiness numbers and race progress while the room is open. The host can remove a racer and lock the room.
  • Be kind. No names or behaviour meant to upset, impersonate or harass another racer. Don't try to flood, probe or spoof the relay, or to join rooms by guessing codes. We can close rooms, lower the limits or switch the relay off at any time to protect players.
  • Opening and joining rooms is rate-limited by the relay (so many rooms at once and per hour, so many per network address) to keep scripts out; when a limit is reached the room is refused and you can try again shortly. No account and no device check is involved.
  • Rooms are temporary: they close after ten minutes of inactivity, when the last racer leaves, and never last more than two hours; nothing is kept afterwards. Online races earn no stars. The relay is provided as-is and may be unavailable, rate-limited or retired; the rest of the game keeps working without it.
  • Grown-ups can turn Race together off in Grown-ups → Online rooms.

No guarantees

The app, the website and the printables are provided "as is" and "as available". We work hard to make them reliable, but we can't promise they will be error-free, always available, or that they will make any particular child a faster typist. Progress is stored on your device; keep your normal device backups, and a racer file you export is a copy you keep yourself.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Click Clack Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for loss of data or progress, and our total liability for anything arising out of the app or these terms is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim (or US $5 if you paid nothing). Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, and if you are a consumer in the EU, the UK, Australia or elsewhere, your statutory rights are not affected.

Ending things

You can stop using Bumpy Keys at any time by deleting it; the progress files go with it (a racer file you exported earlier is your own copy). We may stop honoring an unlock code or refuse support if these terms are seriously broken (for example, codes sold on). Apple's EULA covers termination of the App Store license. Sections that by their nature should survive (our content, limitation of liability, governing law) survive.

Changes

We may update the app and these terms. The current terms are always published at this address with the effective date above; if a change matters (a new feature with new rules, a change in what we collect) we'll say so in the app's release notes too. Continuing to use Bumpy Keys after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the U.S. state in which Click Clack Labs is based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes belong in the courts there, except that if you live in the EU, the UK or another place whose consumer law gives you the right to your own local law and courts, you keep it. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
