Start with 4 and 7, the two numbers your pointer fingers reach. Then add a pair at a time until you know all ten.
Which finger types each number?
Numbers sit two rows above the home row. Each finger reaches straight up, presses, and comes home.
| Finger | Left hand | Right hand |
|---|---|---|
| Pointer | 4 and 5 | 6 and 7 |
| Middle | 3 | 8 |
| Ring | 2 | 9 |
| Pinky | 1 | 0 |
The order to learn them
- 4 and 7. The pointers reach up from F and J.
- 3 and 8. The middle fingers reach up from D and K.
- 5 and 6. The pointers stretch to the middle of the row.
- 2 and 9. The ring fingers reach up from S and L.
- 1 and 0. The pinkies reach up from A and the semicolon.
- All ten. Every number, mixed.
That is the same order as the Bumpy Keys lessons. The pointers go first and the pinkies come last.
What you type
Runs of the numbers you have chosen, mixed with a few counting words so it still reads like something:
43 2 kids 52 51 27 8 hats 6 laps 189 595 285 83 867 410 9 laps
For numbers only, against the clock, take the number typing test.
This page is for the number row above the letters. It does not cover the separate number pad on the right of some keyboards.
