Typing lessons for kids

All 100 lessons are free in the game, with Bumper the bear to cheer you on.

Lesson 1 is ready above: F and J, the two keys with bumps. Finish it and lessons 2 and 3 follow.

How the lessons work

  • Each lesson is one short race. Every right key moves the racer. A lesson takes a minute or two.
  • One or two new keys at a time. A lesson only uses keys from earlier lessons plus its new ones.
  • Home row first. Fingers learn where they rest before they learn to reach.
  • Stars for careful typing. Accuracy earns the stars. Speed comes later, with practice.
  • A Cup at every tenth lesson. The Cup is a race with everything learned on that road.

Together the lessons make a free typing course for children: 100 lessons, grouped into ten Roads of ten. In the game they are all free in two worlds, Puppy Park and Dino Dash. Download it free for iPad and Mac or play online.

Where should my child start?

At lesson 1, whatever their age. The first lessons go quickly for a child who already knows some keys, and they build the habit that matters most: fingers resting on the home row. A child who has played Bumpy Keys before can take an optional placement lap in the game to skip ahead.
