Type the short words you read most: the, and, we, go, play. Small words, typed again and again, are where speed comes from.
What you type
Common short words, the kind that fill every page a child reads. A lap looks like this:
ran please here there three it and is now into help came well new four not yellow soon in be we go with
Choose More sight words for a second set, or Word pairs to type two short words as one smooth move.
Why type sight words?
- They turn up in almost every sentence. Short words like the, and, is and it are on every page a child reads.
- They become one motion. With practice, a word like "the" stops being three presses and becomes a single move of the hand.
- See it, say it, type it. A child sees the word, says it, and types it.
Is your child ready?
These laps use letters from the whole keyboard, so they suit a child who has met all 26 letters. Before that, the practice page has laps that stay on the home row or the top row.
The words come from the Dolch sight word lists. Sight words draws on the first two lists and More sight words on the next two. A class list may differ. Every Dolch list has its own page under sight words, the sight word game has every level in one place, and spelling practice takes a list of your own.
