How to join the Mac beta today
The Mac App Store listing is in review. Until it is approved, the free public beta runs through Apple's TestFlight.
1. Install TestFlight for Mac
Open the Mac App Store and install TestFlight. It is Apple's free beta app. macOS 14 or later.
2. Open the join link on the Mac
Go to bumpykeys.com/mac-beta in Safari on the Mac and click Accept. One beta covers iPad and Mac, so the same invite works on both.
3. Click Install
Bumpy Keys appears in TestFlight. Click Install, then open it from Applications. The full learning path is free; beta builds expire after 90 days and update through TestFlight.
Touch typing on a real keyboard.
On an iPad without a keyboard, Bumpy Keys uses big on-screen keys. On a Mac, your child types on the keyboard in front of them, with the bumps on F and J that the first lesson teaches. New to this? Read how to teach a child to type, or see how it compares in best typing apps for kids on iPad.
Cartoon hands show which finger to use
Lesson one is F and J. The hands on screen show the finger for every key, then fade as your child gets it right.
Stars for accuracy, not speed
Right key pops the letter, wrong key a soft boing. Accuracy unlocks the next level; every key right earns the third star. Little Racers (ages 4 to 5): big targets, every letter spoken, no speed goal.
Short laps with a clear finish
Warm up, try new keys, and celebrate each lap. Your child chooses when to continue.
Buy once, play on iPad and Mac.
All 100 lessons in Puppy Park and Dino Dash are free. $4.99 unlocks all 20 worlds. It is one app on one App Store listing, so the unlock works on your Mac and your iPad, and on your family's devices through Family Sharing. No subscription, no account.
Family Sharing
Up to six family members share the unlock through Apple's Family Sharing. A parent's Mac and a child's iPad count as one purchase.
Progress stays on each device
No player accounts. Offline practice. Progress stays on each device. Each Mac or iPad keeps its own progress. The purchase is shared; the progress is not.
Race a friend on one Mac
Two players take turns on one keyboard. Each player gets a turn, then they see the results together. Same 20 worlds and racers as the iPad.
Window, full screen, keyboard shortcuts.
Bumpy Keys for Mac is built with Mac Catalyst from the same code as the iPad app, so every lesson, racer and world is the same.
| Requires | macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Apple silicon and Intel Macs. |
|---|---|
| Window | Opens at 1280×800 and resizes down to 1024×640, so it fits a 13-inch MacBook under the menu bar and Dock. Full screen works. The title bar is hidden so the world fills the window. |
| Keyboard | The Mac's own keyboard, any USB or Bluetooth keyboard. US QWERTY layout taught. Esc leaves a race safely (unfinished laps do not change progress). Return is Next on the results card. ⌘, opens Grown-ups. |
| Sound | Calm music for each world. In Grown-ups, one All sound switch, and sliders for Bumper's voice, sound effects and music. |
| Privacy | No ads or player accounts. Offline practice. Progress stays on each device. App Sandbox on. Privacy policy. |
| Price | All 100 lessons in Puppy Park and Dino Dash are free. $4.99 once for all twenty worlds, shared with iPad, Family Sharing. Free classroom codes apply to the browser game. |

Mac questions, answered
Is it a separate purchase from the iPad app?
No. Same app, same listing, same $4.99 unlock. Buy it on either and it is unlocked on both, and on your family's devices through Family Sharing.
Which Macs does it run on?
Any Mac on macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple silicon or Intel. It is a Mac Catalyst app, so it runs natively on both.
Does progress sync between Mac and iPad?
No. There are no accounts and progress never leaves the device. Each Mac or iPad keeps its own progress; your child can pick up on either, but the two do not talk to each other. Time Machine backs up the Mac's progress with everything else.
Is it on the Mac App Store yet?
It is in App Store review. Until it is approved, the free public beta is open through TestFlight. On your Mac: 1) install TestFlight for Mac from the Mac App Store; 2) open bumpykeys.com/mac-beta on the Mac and accept the invite; 3) click Install in TestFlight. The Mac build is in the beta now, and updates arrive through TestFlight.
Does it work without a keyboard, like the iPad version?
On the Mac the keyboard is always there, so the big on-screen touch keys from the iPad are not shown. The hands guide and every lesson are the same.
Can a school use it on Macs?
Yes. No accounts, no student data, works offline, and free classroom codes are available for the browser game. The native Mac app uses Apple purchases or Apple offer codes. See Teachers.
