Pick a time and type the numbers as they come. The clock starts on your first right key.
How the test works
- Pick a time. 30 seconds, 1 minute or 2 minutes.
- Pick the numbers. All ten, or one hand at a time: 1 to 5 belong to the left hand and 6 to 0 to the right.
- Type the lit key. The numbers come in groups of one to four, with a space between groups. The clock starts on your first right key. A wrong key waits for the right one and counts against the keys right.
- Read the result. Keys a minute, words a minute at five keys to a word, and the share of keys that were right.
This is the number row
The test uses the row of numbers above the letters, which every keyboard has. It is not a test of the number pad at the side of a wide keyboard, sometimes called ten key.
Which finger types which number
| Finger | Left hand | Right hand |
|---|---|---|
| Pointer | 4 and 5 | 6 and 7 |
| Middle | 3 | 8 |
| Ring | 2 | 9 |
| Pinky | 1 | 0 |
Each finger reaches straight up from its home key and comes back. The hands under the road show the reach for every number.
Practice before the test
Number typing practice has the game's own number lessons, pair by pair, with no clock. Those lessons mix numbers into short words, as real typing does; this test is numbers only. For letters, use the typing test for kids or the typing speed test.
