Sight word flash cards

Bumpy Keys is a typing game for ages 4 to 9, with sight words in its lessons. Free to start.

Pick a list or type your own words, then press Print. Eight cards a page, ready to cut along the dashes.

How to print the flash cards

  1. Pick a list. The choices beside the heading are the Dolch lists. Or type your own words into the box and press "Use my words".
  2. Press Print. Your browser opens its print window with every page ready. The pages fit US Letter and A4 paper. To keep a file, choose the print window's "Save as PDF" where your browser offers it.
  3. Cut along the dashes. Each page makes eight cards. Card stock lasts longer than plain paper.

How many pages each list makes

ListWordsPages of eight cards
Pre-primer405 pages
Primer527 pages
First grade416 pages
Second grade476 pages
Third grade405 pages
Nouns9612 pages

Every word on the list gets a card, including "a", "I" and "don't". Your own list can hold up to 40 words of up to 14 letters, a to z only. A word on the game's blocked list is left out.

Three ways to use the cards

  • Three piles. Read each card. It goes on the "know it", "nearly" or "not yet" pile. Next time, start with "not yet".
  • Find the word. Lay out six cards, say one word, and your child picks it up.
  • Read it, then type it. Prop a card by the keyboard and type the word in the sight word game or in spelling practice.
