Where the phrases come from

They are from the phrase lessons in Bumpy Keys, the typing game we make: lesson 75, "Two Words", and lesson 76, "Three Words". Those lessons hold 121 phrases. The 89 on this page are the ones in which every word is on the Dolch list, counting its nouns. Our page writer checks each word, so a phrase with any other word in it, such as "the frog can hop", is left off this page.

Like those lessons, the game asks for no Shift key and no full stop. The tiles show capital letters, the same as the keys. The practice is in reading the words together and typing them in one go.

How to use them

  • Read it, then type it. A child reads the whole phrase aloud, then types it. The hands show which finger to use.
  • Start with two words. The first list is the shortest step up from single words.
  • Single words first? The sight word game types one word at a time, level by level.
