Sight word checklist

Bumpy Keys is a typing game for ages 4 to 9, with sight words in its lessons. Free to start.

Pick a list, then press Print. Every word has three boxes beside it, one for each day you check.

How to use the checklist

  1. Print the list your child is on. The choices beside the heading are the Dolch lists.
  2. Show the words one at a time. The flash cards for the same list work well, so the sheet stays with you.
  3. Tick column 1 for each word read at a glance. Leave the box empty if the word is sounded out or guessed.
  4. Check again on another day in column 2, and again in column 3. Write each date at the top.

What the sheet is, and is not

It is a record for a parent or a teacher: which words are known today, and which to practice next. It is not a reading test with a score to compare with other children. Schools use their own assessments and their own word lists.

How many pages each list makes

Pre-primer401 page

What to do with the empty boxes

Practice those words. Type them into spelling practice to make a game of just that list, or play the level in the sight word game.

What it looks like on paper

A printed sight word checklist: forty words in two columns, each with three boxes to tick

This is the page the tool prints for the pre-primer list. Pick another level, or type your own words, and the page changes with it.

Questions

Is the Dolch sight word checklist free?

Yes. There is nothing to sign up for. The checklist prints from this page.

Can I use it as a sight word assessment?

It works as a simple one at home or in class: show each word, tick the ones read at a glance, and check again on two more days. It gives no score to compare with other children.

Can I make a checklist from my own words?

Yes. Type or paste them into the box and press "Use my words". Your own list can hold up to 40 words of up to 14 letters, a to z only. A word on the game's blocked list is left out.

Is anything saved or sent?

No. The sheets are made in your browser. No list is saved, and nothing is sent to us or to anyone else.
