Multiplayer typing game

Bumpy Keys has two ways to race friends: take turns on one keyboard, or share a four-letter code so a whole class types the same words at the same moment.

How a Race together room works

  1. One racer makes a room. The game shows a four-letter code.
  2. Friends type the code to join. Up to 30 racers fit in a room, enough for a class.
  3. Everyone gets the same words. The race starts for all racers at once.
  4. Nothing is kept. When the room closes, nothing about it is stored.

Made for children, so some things are missing on purpose

  • No accounts. Nobody signs up or logs in.
  • No chat. Racers cannot send each other messages.
  • No strangers. There is no list of rooms to browse and no matchmaking. The only way in is the code a friend or teacher shares.
  • One-word names. A racer shows one name of up to 16 characters, and names that are not allowed are turned away.

The privacy policy lists exactly what a room sends between devices.

Race right now, on your own

No friends nearby? The typing race on this site sets a puppy against a dinosaur that types at a speed you pick. For more racers to try, see all typing games.

For a class

A room code on the board gets a whole class into one race, on Chromebooks or iPads, with no student accounts. Teachers can request free classroom codes for the full game.
