Free Typing Practice for Schools and Chromebooks

Give your class a short typing activity without creating student accounts. Start with one device, then choose the setup that fits your classroom.

Bumpy Keys is a typing game for ages 4 to 9. Children follow finger cues, press keys to race, and earn dress-up rewards. All 100 lessons are free in Puppy Park and Dino Dash. Teachers can request free access to all 20 worlds and racers for their classroom.

Request your classroom access

Email [email protected] with your school, approximate number of devices, and whether you use Chromebooks/browser play or the native iPad/Mac apps. No student names are needed.

For browser play, we provide a private class link and a short code. For the native Apple apps, ask for the Apple offer-code route so you get instructions that match your devices.

What a classroom code unlocks

The code adds worlds and racers to browser play. It does not skip the lessons or automatically award earned dress-up items. Children keep earning those by playing.

A class code has a device allowance and an expiry date stated in your email. Classroom renewals are free. Keep the link within your class so other people do not use its device slots. If your school clears browser storage or you need more devices, email us for help.

A ten-minute classroom trial

  1. Prepare one device first. Open the class link online, check the sound, and play a lesson. Test the exact student browser profile you will use.
  2. Model the starting position. Show F and J and their bumps. Use the hand-position poster beside the screen.
  3. Let students try one short lap. Help with the finger cue; avoid making this first session a speed contest.
  4. Finish with one observation. Ask which key felt easier to find or which finger they practised.
  5. Repeat in the next session. Confirm that progress and classroom access remain on the device.

This is a suggested trial, not a fixed lesson duration. Adapt it to your class and the time available.

How Chromebooks remember

The browser game stores player progress and redeemed access locally in that browser profile. Installing it as a web app does not create a cloud account or synchronize progress across machines. Guest sessions, private browsing, cleared site data, or a school policy that resets profiles can remove that local state.

Use a persistent profile when your school permits one. Save the class link with your teaching materials so you can restore access. Reopening the link restores the entitlement; it does not recover progress that was deleted.

Offline use and shared devices

Open and load the browser game online before relying on offline play, and test the lessons and devices you plan to use. Code redemption and online races need an internet connection. On shared devices, use the game's local racer profiles and check your school's browser-retention policy.

Know the limits before choosing it

Bumpy Keys does not provide a school-wide roster, central teacher reporting dashboard, or cloud-synchronized student progress. If those are requirements, evaluate them separately. The classroom offer is intended to make the game easy to try, with printables and local progress rather than a student-account setup.

Your free classroom kit

Download the classroom starter kit, progress chart, and certificate. See the teacher page for the full offer and privacy policy for how the game handles information.

After two sessions, tell us what worked and what was confusing. If it helps your class, share the public teacher page with a colleague so they can request their own class code.
