Keep it in the launcher
Bumpy Keys is a progressive web app (PWA): the browser game can open in its own app window. You do not need a Google Play download or a Chrome extension.
- Open the install page in Chrome on the Chromebook.
- Choose Install if it appears. Otherwise use the install icon in Chrome’s address bar, or open Chrome’s menu and choose Cast, save, and share → Install page as app.
- Open Bumpy Keys from the launcher next time. Use the same Chromebook user profile to keep that player’s progress.
No install option on a school device? Play in the tab if your school allows it, or ask your administrator to install the web app. Google’s installation instructions.
Teachers get all 20 worlds free
Request a free classroom code with your school or group and the number of devices. Homeschool co-ops and libraries are welcome. We reply with a private class link and a short code.
- Open your class link on each classroom device while online. The link opens the browser game and claims the code.
- Or open the game’s gear, complete the grown-up gate, then choose Worlds → Teacher code and enter the code.
- Choose any of the 20 worlds and racers. Dress-up items are still earned through play.
The code’s email gives its device allowance and end date. Classroom codes cover a school year; renewal is free. Keep the link within your class. If you need more devices, reply and we’ll help.
Native iPad or Mac app?
Ask for an Apple offer code instead. Browser classroom codes do not unlock the App Store apps. Tell us which version and how many devices you use so we can give you the right setup steps.
One browser purchase, a code to keep
Families can keep playing all 100 lessons free, or buy the optional browser unlock for the additional worlds and racers. After a successful purchase, save the unlock code and restore link shown on the return screen.
Open that link in another browser, or use the code entry page. The purchase code has no expiration date. It is a private unlock code, not an account password. The unlock follows the code; stars, names and outfits stay in each browser’s local save.
Apple purchases work separately in the native iPad and Mac apps. Buying in the browser does not unlock those apps.
A classroom setup that lasts
Load the game and the lessons you plan to use while online, then test solo practice with Wi-Fi off before relying on it. New code claims, checkout and online races need an internet connection.
Progress is stored in the browser profile on that device. Guest sessions, school policies that clear browsing data, or switching profiles can start a fresh save. Use the racer-file export in Grown-ups when moving a player’s progress.
School administrators can add https://play.bumpykeys.com/ by URL in Google Admin’s Chrome Apps & extensions, then choose the installation policy for their students. Start with a small test group. See our tech-office guide and Google’s managed web app instructions.
