Press the space bar as many times as you can before the clock runs out. Every press moves the racer one tile. The clock starts on your first press.
How the spacebar test works
- Pick a time. 5, 10 or 30 seconds.
- Press the space bar. The clock starts on your first press, and the counter in the corner goes up by one each time.
- Keep going until the clock stops. The card shows how many presses you made and how many that is a second.
Holding the bar down does not count: each press has to be its own press. Other keys do nothing but cost a star.
Use a thumb
In typing, the space bar belongs to the thumbs. The hands on the screen show a thumb on the bar while the fingers stay on their home keys. Pressing with a thumb here is practice for every space between words later.
A spacebar counter for a class
It works as a one-minute warm-up: everyone runs the 10 second test and tries to beat their own number. Nothing is saved, so write the numbers on the board.
After the space bar
Letter games ask for one letter at a time, home row keys shows where the fingers rest, and typing for beginners starts with F, J and the space bar.
